What a good sport

Remember how I told you that the Bakers have a tradition to sing "Happy Birthday" very obnoxiously??? Well, I was reminded that Luke was the one that had stared this. For his birthday, I had to record the singing and biting into the cake to show the world just how ugly this sounds, but also how much fun we have. I think the kids were pleasantly surprised with what a good sport Luke was about everything.

Side note...don't you just love that Luke is singing to himself???

On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice by providing us the freedom to do what we do. Many brave men and women are not with us today while others are defending us home and abroad. Take time to remember their sacrifices.

Oh, for the love of milk...

I thought today would be a great day to go to Costco instead of trying to go on Saturday when your shopping in a madhouse with a traffic jam of over sized carts and crazy people. All I needed was some milk and bread...that's all. Not too much to ask for, right? Well, I got my milk and bread fairly fast, loaded up Oliver off we were. When I got home and pulled out the box of milk from the car, I noticed that something smelled weird. Once inside, I opened up the cardboard container. Sure enough, the milk was open and it had leaked everywhere. The whole bottom was a milky mess and the smell was even worse. I had to load up Oliver once again, wait in a seriously long line to get my 3 dollars and 9 cents back, run to the back to get some new milk, and finally check out. I seriously considered just forgetting all about it and not having milk for the rest of the week, but Luke and I drink so much milk around here, it's kind of gross actually. So really, all this just for the love of milk.

Loved Friday

This past Friday, and weekend for that matter, was so much fun. The morning started out a little rough with a killer toe stub, but I got over it so that I wouldn't miss out on all the fun.

(The picture doesn't do it much justice.)

We headed to Lagoon to volunteer for Physics day. They gave us some pretty cool shirts and we helped out with the egg drop for a few hours. We also went to pioneer village to see all the old stuff and went on a few rides. Even though the park was closed to the public that day, there were still so many students there to make the lines for the rides really long.

The target was actually pretty big and I was surprised how many kids completely missed it. One of the teachers that was with us got nailed right in the head, but he was fine.

Oliver had to stay outside of the barricade so that he wouldn't get hit. He did SO good all day. I think he really enjoyed watching all the people around him, the music, and being pushed around in his stroller.
We mostly hung out with Kevin and Mari-Beth. Kevin is a baseball player, so naturally, we had to hit up all the baseball games. It was very entertaining to watch him and he won the majority of the time.
Kevin and Luke were so funny.

Luke was trying to rinse the egg off his leg, but I think it was just an excuse to play in the fountain.

Later that day, Ryan and Karina met up with us and we went out to dinner. It was nice to be kid less which is something that rarely happens. We had such a great time with them as always and look forward to hanging out with them. Hopefully soon in warmer circumstances...wink
The rest of the weekend consisted of trying to see Jake and Becky as much as possible while they were visiting, Going up to Trent and Amy's for an awesome BBQ to celebrate Trent and his birthday, And relaxing in the great weather. I'm sad that I didn't get any pictures of the rest of the weekend, so you'll have to believe me when I say that it was all fun.
I love the weekends when you have a lot to do towards the beginning and the you get to relax towards the end. I hope we have a lot more weekends like this this coming summer.

Another "first"

Oliver got a much needed haircut today. His hair was growing out of control and he was starting to get old man hair. Here are the pictures of his first haircut...

This is the before picture. Sitting so calmly not knowing what to expect.
Here goes...Luke was very careful to get every fine little piece of hair. Oliver was doing great at the moment.

This is where Oliver was starting to get a bit fidgety. You can tell by that look on his face that the buzzing and the holding of his head was starting to annoy him.

And this is where he got mad. It was already time for him to go to bed and we still had to bathe him and feed him before we could put him down, so he was not too happy with us. The towel, clothes, and binky were out of there.

And finally, here is the after picture. He was checking himself out in the mirror so we had to take a couple of shots.

Oliver and his dad. I know, his bald head looks a little funny and he resembles I biker baby or wrestler or buda...whatever you want to call him, but at least now when his hair grows out, it will be a bit more even.

Lots of happenings

Friday:

Went to Aaron's Birthday party where we ate some really good pizza, watched the bigger kids beat up a Sponge Bob pinata, saw Aaron open all his cool presents, and had some chocolate spider man cake. Thanks Cade and Emily, for inviting us!

I took pictures of Oliver and all his cousins on my side so that we could give their grandma a big picture of them all for mothers day. At times it was a bit hectic, but we managed to get a few good ones.

Went to a surprise BBQ for our friends, the Loosle's, who will be moving away. It was cold, but it was a lot of fun to hang out with many of our friends from the ward. We'll sure miss you guys and that cute little Campbell.

Saturday:

I Volunteered at The Race for the Cure from 6-9am. I couldn't believe how many people were there. I'm sad to admit that this is the first time I have ever volunteered for anything like this, but it definitely wont be the last.

Worked in the garden with Luke where we planted 9 pumpkins, 27 different types of tomato's, 6 squash, 8 different types of peppers, 1 zucchini, 3 cucumbers, 8 sweet potato's, carrots, beets, onions and peas. Not to mention we still need to plant our melons, but they were completely out. By 8 O'clock PM, we were finished and very tired.

Sunday:

Had a wonderful mothers day.

Luke and Oliver got me a bird feeder. Something that I have been wanting for a while. We hung it up outside, but the birds still don't know it's there.

My family came over for a BBQ where we surprised my mom with the framed picture of all her grand kids. She loved it!

Finally after a long weekend, Luke and I cleaned up and flopped down on the couch to unwind before going to bed.

Isn't this usually how all holidays are? Hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating Mothers Day!

Turning Twenty Six

WOW! I had such a great birthday this year. I really got spoiled rotten and it was so much fun! Here are the exciting things I got to do this year...

Luke got a sitter so that the two of us could go out to dinner and hang out for a little while. Ever since before I got pregnant, I had been wanting to eat at The Happy Sumo. Finally of Friday, we got to and it was delish! Afterwards, we strolled around the mall doing a little window shopping at some of our favorite stores. Sur La Table and Anthropology are a must when at the Gateway.

THEN...

Saturday morning, Jill and I headed over to Market Street Grill for a breakfast feast! The food is always so good and I'm glad that I got to share this with someone who equally enjoys this place.

And Finally...
We had a little BBQ yesterday with family and a few close Friends. As always there was some great food! Luke prepared all the meat and did such a wonderful job.

Since it isn't everyday that ALL of Oliver's cousins get to come over at the same time, I took the opportunity to take a picture of them together. I can't believe that there are 15 kids in this pic and we were still missing James and Jack Veigel. Oliver is so lucky to have this many cousins! Love you all!

AND the birthday cake. For some years now, the Baker side has had the tradition to sing "Happy Birthday" in the most annoying, high pitched, off key, and loud way. I don't know where or when this started, but everyone looks forward to the singing on birthdays. Whether it's over the phone or in person, it's definitely a must! So, they sang to me and then they started to chant "take a bite". I guess one bite wasn't good enough since I was careful not to get my face smashed into the cake so what do they do? Start chanting "One more bite" I refused, and so my brother and his 2 older boys, grabbed the cake, held my arms and shoved my face into nearly the entire thing. Good thing there were cupcakes too.

This birthday was a very special one for me. I don't know if it's because the whole birthday process has come full circle with me giving birth to my own baby and understanding what it's like to be a major part of creating life for another person, or if I am just being tender hearted about another year gone by. Regardless, it was an incredible birthday. Thank you everybody for making it a memorable one.

I love to laugh...
