A Final Farewell

Sadly, we did it. On Christmas eve we went from becoming a family of 4 to a family of 3...tear. At around 2pm, we got a phone call from a lady who was driving through on their way up to Logan. They called to say that they were looking for a dog and that they wanted to meet Moose. Earlier that day they were at Sportsman's Warehouse where they saw the flyer that we had posted of Moose, so at around 4pm, they stopped by. I really didn't think that they would take him so quickly, but sure enough, they fell in love with him and his friendly personality and welcomed him into their lives. We gathered all of his belongings and said our quick goodbyes. It took me a couple of hours to recover and I still feel very sad to think that he is gone. Moose always loved us no matter how mad we would get or how much we failed to give him attention. He would always meet us at the door to welcome us home and loved us unconditionally. Here are a few of the fun and even not so fun things that happened while Moose was around...

* We got Moose only 2 months after we bought our house. We were excited to be new home owners and now new dog owners.

* His real name was Dakota...we thought that Moose was more fitting and taught him his new name quickly
* We were awoken every morning from Moose coming into our room and wet nosing and licking our feet if they were uncovered.

*When Moose would get scared, he's run into the brown room and hide in between the Luv Sacs.
*When he got a bit bigger and he'd get scared, he'd run into the the brown room and hide in the Luv Sacs.

*He really enjoyed drinking water from the toilet. I hated when he'd do it.

* Took him camping for the first time up at Greys river where he would sneak out of his bed and flop down right in between us.

*We enjoyed spending our first Christmas in our house with our dog.

* He always had to be right in between the two of us.

* We bought him a dog backpack so that we could take him hiking with us. He loved it and paraded around with it on his back so pridefully.
*He made it into our ward directory. No, it wasn't us. It was a joke played on us by our neighbor.

* We got nervous when we found out that we had a baby on the way because were scarred that they wouldn't get along.

* Trained Moose to stay off the carpet. He really was a good and smart dog.

* Were woken up in the middle of the night several times to the foul smell of Moose poo.

*I cried when we had to get him neutered. I felt so bad for him and I knew he hated us there for a little while...until his lamp shade came off.

* Had Oliver and we were so happy that the two of them were going to be buddies.

*Took him camping, running, hiking, fishing, Mountain biking and he loved every single minute of it.
*He loved to eat Oliver's socks for some weird reason and we'd find them out on the lawn either thrown up or mixed in amongst other things.

*Sammy was his best (dog) friend with Mushu at a close second.

* He loved Luke the most and until recently, Luke admitted that he loved him the most back.

We will truly miss our dog Moose and hope that he enjoys his new family. We knew for a while that is was the right thing that needed to be done. The memories with him will always be imprinted in our hearts and we'll never forget those happy times with him.

Remember this...

No watching Marley and Me this time. I'm pretty serious about it.

Moose Anyone?

As much as we hate to do this, the time has come to give up our dog , Moose. We never thought we would be those people that would want to give their dog away once they had a baby, but we have tried for 7 months to make it work and sadly, it's not working. Because Luke is in school and I am looking after Oliver, we feel that we aren't able to give him the life we know others could. We honestly love Moose and because of it, we feel that this is necessary. If there is anyone that is looking for a dog or knows someone that is looking for a dog, please spread the word. We would really like him to go to a good home that can give him the attention we no longer can. He is a very active dog who loves to play, run and completely be loved. We don't want any money, we just want him to go to a good place and we will include everything that we have for him (food, treats, leash, bowl and bed).
Here is a little more about Moose:
Moose has lived with us for about 2 1/2 years. He was born on 03/06/07. He is a male neutered chocolate/pointer mix. Chocolate in color with a white chest. He is current on his shots. Weighs approx. 60 lbs. He loves the outdoors including backpacking, hiking, camping, mountain biking, and playing in the water. He has a lot of energy and is a good learner. He knows the commands, sit, come here, get down, no, chewy, lets go, inside and go get in your bed.

This really breaks my heart and hurts me to tears, but I know it's what we have to do. Please leave a comment if you're interested or if you know of someone who is. Thanks!

Our Thanksgiving

Wow what a great Thanksgiving we had this year. It was our turn to spend it with the Bakers, so like we do every other year, we started the day off with a Turkey bowl. We had all the boy cousins there (even Oliver who sat at the side lines in the stroller cheering us on and eating snow), and played a fun game of football.

Since there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground, we threw a few good snowballs at the opposing teams as they were going over their plays in their huddles. At the end of the game, my brother hit me so hard in the back with a tightly packed snowball....I guess i deserved it.

In the past years, we have had a bigger turnout for the turkey bowl. Hopefully next year more people will want to join us. Even with our few numbers, we still managed to have a great game and a wonderful start to the day.

My brother and his family were nice enough to host all 18 of us. We had all the traditional thanksgiving fixing's and stuffed ourselves so full that all we could do was sit around...until we had room for dessert.

The dessert table was full of pumpkin pies, cupcakes, cheesecake, apple pies and ice cream. I ate a little bit of everything and it was wonderful.

After resting up for a while, the girls decided to brave the cold weather and hit up some stores in the wee hours of the Black Friday morning. First stop: Old Navy. After this, I had to go home to get some rest while the 4 of them kept going.

I am so grateful to my family for their love and support. I am grateful to have them all in my life. They make life fun and interesting and I'm happy that we can all be together for our Thanksgiving holiday.

A serious reason to par-tay

My sister in law, Taleesha is pretty cool. A while back she told me that she wanted to have a Twilight/New Moon party before the new movie came out. So, last night was her party. Sadly I missed most of it, but what I was there for, was awesome! Her whole living room and kitchen was decked out in red and black. Quotes from the books all over the place. The food table was very impressive. Baseballs, apples, fur, candles, glitter, and the best part, posters of Jacob and Edward.

Playing games. The winning team won glitter ornaments that said "Real Men Sparkle". So cute!

TEAM EDWARD

TEAM JACOB (my team)

Thanks Taleesha for hosting such a fun night. I can't wait until your party in the summer. I'll definitely be there for the whole thing.

Oh and today I am thankful for...

Humor.

I'm thankful for...

Our jobs. Luke has been working for Heath Engineering for the past 4 years and has been doing a great job at it. Since we have been married, I have had a few jobs. Some that I have loved and some not so much. The job I had right up until I had Oliver was probably one of the best ones ever. I worked with such fun people and the work wasn't that bad either. I decided to stay home once Oliver came into the picture and therefore I [sadly] quit. However recently, I decided that I wanted to work again and do something on the side that wouldn't take away from much time with Oliver so about a month ago, I got job. I pretty much love it and working around this time of year at a mall is so festive and definitely makes it feel like the holidays have arrived....the extra money isn't too bad either.

I am thankful for...

Food. Yes, I know that this is one of those things that is just a given to be thankful for and not really thought about, but around this time of year when you hear about donations needed for food banks and shocking statistics about people going hungry, I say no, it's something that I am very aware of and thankful for. I'm glad that we have sufficient food in our home and even thankful for the tiny little food storage that we have managed to maintain.

And on a lighter note....I'm thankful for my newest favorite thing (thanks or maybe no thanks to Amy) Pomegranate diet 7-up. CHEERS!

I am thankful for...Veterans. I may have never had any family members in the military and I may not even fully understand what it's like to be as thankful as some of these families are that have lost their loved ones, but I do have friends that have sacrificed a lot to be able to give so much to this country. For all of them, I am thankful. I recently found out that one of my friends will be deployed to Iraq soon which makes me even more grateful for the men and women who provide such a selfless act on our behalf. Freedom will continue to ring throughout this nation because of the incredible people of this country. Thank you thank you thank you!

I am thankful for...

My nephews. I got to spend the majority of the day with two of my nephews. I love that these two are at the age where we can actually have a pretty decent conversation. However, when they are talking amongst themselves, Spencer and Tayten can say some of the funniest things and I can't help but laugh [inside] at their jokes and ideas.

It doesn't end with just these two though. I feel that I have some of the coolest nieces and nephews around. Fortunately, our siblings trust us enough to be able to watch their kids on a regular basis and I feel that they add so much spark and joy to my life. Love you kiddos!

Thank you thank you

I am a week behind, but I wanted to post some things that I am thankful for this month. My goal is to post something for every single day in November, so without further ado, here is what I am thankful for today (and for the past 7 days that I have missed).

#8
I am thankful for...

Church Leaders. Today as I sat in YW listening to the lesson, I thought back on all the many leaders that I have had throughout my life. Seminary teachers, YW leaders, Prophets, Bishops, visiting and home teachers, and so on. Most were so helpful to me and taught me things that I have been able to carry and apply in my own life. What a blessing it is to know that there are actually people out there that want to see you succeed and who are so willing to give of their time and talents in order to help you find happiness in your life. With this being said, I am also grateful for the leaders that I have the privilege to serve with. I feel so inadequate next to them because these are truly amazing and inspiring women, but I hope that I can be like them someday and have an impact on the lives of those whom I get to serve.

#7
I am thankful...

To live in such a beautiful state. I seriously love the state of Utah. Whenever I hear someone say how they hate living here, it bothers me so bad. Of course everyone is entitled to their own liking, but I thought the beauty of Utah was an obvious thing. My favorite things about this place is that we get to experience every season to its fullest. Cold and snowy winters, Refreshing and colorful springs, hot and sunny summers, and my favorite, crisp cool falls. I love the diverseness of everything you can do in the outdoors. There really is so much that Utah has to offer and I don't think I would ever want to live away from this place that I call home for too long. I'd surly miss it.

#6
I am thankful for...

Music. That's right. I love a good beat. Music has a way of accommodating my mood and making me feel just the way I need to. At times, nothing can express the way I feel better then a song or a melody. Music speaks volumes to me and I'm grateful that there are such talented people out there that can provide us with such rich soundtracks to any memory, emotion or thought.

#5
I am thankful for...

My health. I am so grateful that I have been able to stay healthy so that I can preform my responsibilities without many interruptions. Being healthy is something that I have strived to be more cautious about. I want to be able to teach my family the importance of living a healthy life and the benefits of doing so.

#4
I am thankful for...

Technology. I really like having a computer....and the Internet and our phones and a camera and so on and so forth. I especially am grateful for all of the modern advances that we have including medicine, the opportunities that we have to study these things and apply them through an education. What a cool thing it is to live in a technological world.

#3
I am thankful for...
Family. Luke and I both have pretty great families. I am so grateful for the friendships in which we share and the love that we have for one another. We have wonderful parents who have taught us to have the gospel as a strong foundation in our lives. Our families are always willing and eager to help us out whenever we need it and often offer a lot of support in our daily lives. You are never forgotten in our prayers for all the service rendered. We thank you and love you all.

#2
I am thankful for...

Luke. I really am impressed with all that Luke does to provide for our little family. He is a hard worker and is motivated to want to do more by his love for us. He sees my flaws and knows my weaknesses and instead of making me feel guilty or worthless, he loves me even more and helps me to want to be better. I love his laugh and his silly sense of humor. He is such a kid at heart which helps me to not be so serious all the time and just have fun. wink...

#1
I am thankful for...

This guy. Oliver has been one of the richest blessings ever. I never thought that I would ever be as blessed as I am from having him in my life. Whatever I did to deserve this kid well, I have no idea, but I'm sure lucky to be able to call him my own. My love grows more and more everyday as I learn more about him. I can't wait to see what new adventures this sweet little boy will take me on.

Halloween {Two-thousand-nine}

Halloween this year came and went in what seemed to be a blink of an eye. This is one of our favorite holidays around here and so we tried to pack in as much as we could. Here is what we did...

The Baker's always get together to carve pumpkins Halloween week so that we can have them up and glowing on Halloween night. Friday night we got the group together to carry out this family tradition.

We had a Halloween dinner with Black and orange homemade bread bowls, Chicken tortilla soup, Salads, veggies, the best slushy drink ever, cream cheese brownies, a cookie caterpillar, and red velvet cupcakes. YUM! My sister in law Taleesha did such an awesome job preparing all the food and making it so fun and festive.

Next came the carving of all the pumpkins. It was messy, it was loud and it was fun to see what creative pumpkins everyone came up with.

My dad had the best pumpkin around...his big round belly, so my brother and I tackled him down and included him in the pumpkin decorating.
for Halloween night, Luke and I thought it would be fun to stay home for once and pass out candy. We had some friends and family stop by and ended up having a great time.
Our costumes this year had no theme involved whatsoever. I just used my mystery dinner costume, Luke threw his Luchador costume together in seconds and Oliver was the Incredible Hulk (Although most people didn't really know what he was).

We hope everyone had a great and safe Halloween. Until next year!

Death by Chocolate

Last night for our monthly girls night out we had a mystery dinner party. The theme was Death by Chocolate and it was SO much fun.

The Fabulous 15!

In order of appearance we have:

Hazel Nutt-Whirl {Veronica}, Kit Catt {Kamme}, Beebee C. Channill {Brit}, Candy Kisses {Julie}, Wendy Boxis-Empty {Karen}, Jacq Latt {Caitlin}, Moll Teaser {Tracy}, Charlotte Webb {Emily}, Kara Mello {Celia}, Wilma Winker {Charity}, Dr. Pix E. Stick {Kim}, Lolita Popp {Sandra}, Marsha Mallow {Janet}, Shopin Channill {Audry}, and Pippa Mint {Jenny}

A joint party is being held at Thornbury's Chocolate to launch the new range of Symphony Chocoaltes and also to celebrate the birthday party of Shopin Channill who is the daughter of Thornbury's owner Cocoa Channill. What could possibly go wrong on such a happy night?

We had a wonderful array of appetizers and salads, some incredible pasta with garlic bread, and of course, what would a chocolate party be without having some delicious chocolate fondue.

Of course we had to take a lot of pictures.

In the end we found that the murderess was little miss Jaqu Latt. Who knew that a little old lady could be so vindictive?

This night was truly so much fun. Thanks to everyone that made this possible and for all your hard work to pull off such a great night.

3 year anniversary

On this day 3 years ago, my wonderful and loving grandma passed away. She was an incredible woman whom we miss dearly. Today we remembered her and celebrated her life together as a family. My sister made my grandmas one and only amazing apple pie. Each bite took me back to Mexico where you could instantly smell sugar as soon as you walked into her house. Where her kitchen was always full of life an enjoyment. The way her eyes would light up when she laughed. And how she could tell the most amazing stories. Te extrañamos muchisiomo abuelita y siempre pensamos en ti. Como quisimos que conocieras a Oliver. Te queremos mucho abuelita Licha, y algun dia nos vamos a volver estar juntos como familias eternas.

Grandmas amazing apple pie. So good, I even had to have a full piece. Oliver loved it too.

Here is Oliver with his grandma. His favorite thing about brown grandma is that she dances with him every single time he goes to visit. As you can tell by the look on his face, he pretty much loves her.

This is officially a masacre...a rat masacre.

And this makes 4!
Location: North side of the compost at around 1700 hours.

The victim: Templeton number 4.

Again, getting ready to eat dinner...I guess the rats had the same idea. I saw the dark furry thing running back and forth to stock up on the rest of the cherry tomatoes that had been left out. Bad idea, rat. Don't you know that nearly your entire family has been picked off from doing this..apparently their absence doesn't mean much to you. I pumped the gun, snuck out the front and around the corner. Threw out a nice fat red rotten tomato to lure my pray on over and I waited...again. Sure enough, a few minutes later it casually walked out and made it's way over to my trap. I didn't know if it was going to hang around and I didn't want to sit outside much longer. I was getting hungry and I didn't want my dinner to overcook. So I shot and hit it right in the head as you can see in the picture below. I guess I'm good at hitting my targets in the neck and head, since that's where I've gotten every single one of those nasty little [and some not so little] things. This one was a fighter. It jumped up in the air and wiggled and squirmed all over the place. I was trying to shoot it again to put it out but it wasn't giving up so easy. It took me about 3 more shots to finally hit it and then he was gone. Tear...of gladness! If I'm not mistaken, I believe there is still one more. Hopefully not, but I'm not giving the Templeton's the benefit of the doubt.

The eyes started to go grey right away. It was pretty gross to say the least.

P.S. I sware I'm not white trash...just trying to protect my property. Is that so bad???

Halloween Apothecary

This year I wanted to do some Halloween decorating on my own and for free, so I searched the web and I was able to come up with these:

Spooky Halloween Apothecary

My sister in law, Taleesha had given me all sorts of old bottles a while back and for the longest time I was trying to get rid of them (those that often attend the GNO nickel auctions should know this). When I saw the idea to make an apothecary, I was so happy to know that I had the perfect bottles for this project. I found some excellent labels online that I could print for free and started making a variety of potions of my own.

Some of these potions included, Rotten apples [real apples that we found on the ground while on a walk], Witches warts [raisins], Swamp Slime [aloe vera], Snake oil [colored water, oil and a toy snake], twisted twigs [tree branches], Human flesh [fake heart, arm and leg in water], Eye balls [toy eyeballs in colored water], wolf howl [cotton balls], Mummy Mold [mud], and more...

I used these orange and purple lights to illuminate my shelf and to create a spookier atmosphere. So far, I love it and now I can look forward to adding somet new potions to my apothecary every year.

Unfortunately, I can't take all the credit for this idea. Here are the links that I used to get my ideas from. I'd love to see if anyone else has done something similar to this. Please share, as I love to see how creative other people are and where there ideas are sparked from.
