Kids will be kids

Last night I got to hang out with some of my favorite little people. The Jensen kids. Oliver LOVES these guys and every time I pull up to their house, he notices and starts to point and make very excited noises.

The kids wanted to make brownies as their treat for the night and so brownies we made. Watching them each eat the yummy chocolaty batter was so funny. I just had to document it.

A few (we wont name names) didn't believe me when I said that they had chocolate all over their face and we had to wash up, so I took a picture of each of them to show that they really did have messy faces. They thought this was pretty funny. I guess I could have sent them each to look in the bathroom mirror, but what fun is there in that???

And to finish off the night, we thought it would be fun to watch Popeye..that's right the 1980's version with Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall. The kids were loving it (even though Oakley and Aiden are shooting stink eye looks at the camera).

The night was excellent...until Oliver decided to freak out a couple of times in the middle of the night and not sleep. We ended up packing up and heading home at 4AM.
Thanks Jensen kids for letting us play and hang out. We sure love you!

BANFF

This year we headed to BANFF Mountain Film Festival for 2 of the 3 nights that they were here. It was awesome! Sure, we didn't win any of the cool prizes, but it was still so much fun to go and the films were fantastic.

The first night we double dated with our friends Brittany and Kassidy. We headed to The Pie to gorge ourselves and then up to Kingsbury hall. It was very refreshing to go out on a real date...sadly, I don't remember the last time we had done that.

The second night, I met up with Luke and brought my cousin Juan-Carlos along with me. He loved it and once again, so did we.

Hopefully we can make it to Radical Reels next month where they show all of the high adrenaline filled films. I'm sure it will not disappoint. If anyone wants to go with us, let us know!

Mourning

On February 5th {also known as Oliver day}, Oliver and I headed out to celebrate...well, him! So we spent the night hanging out. I took him to Target so that he could pick out a toy. The only thing that he was eyeing was the jumbo sized bouncy balls that are stored in those tall baskets. He picked a blue one and we headed home. For the next week and a half, he's been loving that blue bouncy ball. Last night, the life of blue ball was blue indeed when he was popped by his beloved Oliver. Oliver wasn't too happy about this either....

Rest in Peace Blue Ball. You will be sorley missed.

FOUND...FINALLY!

Since Oliver is walking around, I thought it was time to buckle down and really do some searching for shoes that were going to fit on this boys thick feet. I was hopeful as I pulled up to the mall....however, 2 hours and 5 stores later, I wasn't very hopeful at all. It wasn't like I was being picky or anything like that. If the shoes were going to be hidioderously ugly, but fit, I would have bought them on the spot. THE BOY NEEDS SHOES! But, there really weren't any shoes that I could get his poor little hobbit feet in. I was headed to the last store and if I didn't find any there that worked, I was done and I was going to make him shoes...really I was. Low and behold, to my surprise we found a pair that easy slipped onto my darling little Cinderella..err..Cinderellos feet! He did good stomping around in them trying to get use to the confining and confusing blocks. All in all, I'd say yesterday was a pretty good and successful day!

My boys...

They sure made me feel special this Valentines even though Luke knows how I feel about the holiday. Luke took Oliver out Saturday night while I was working because he said quote "Oliver told me that he wanted to get his mom something for Valentines". Sadly, Oliver didn't inform me that he wanted to get his Dad something. Darn it. So, the next morning after they had let me sleep in, they came in with this...

Some more climbing gear! I was completely surprised and I loved that they had thought of me on this day. How lucky am I?
Look at these two! Don't they just make you laugh??? Love them!

Fly me to the moon, let me play among those stars...

...Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars!

My friend Brittany has started a fun weekly activity called Field trip Fridays. This week we got to join her and we went to the Clarke Planetarium. We had a fun little group and I'm pretty sure the kids had a good time as well.

Playing on Mars.

Mars is the 4th planet from the sun. The planet is named after the Roman God of war. Mars has 2 moons. Mars is the 7th largest planet in our Solar System. Mars is about 4.6 billion years old.

We've landed on the Moon!

The moon is the earths natural satellite. Its approximate age is about 4.5 billion years old. The same side of the moon always faces the earth. The moon has no magnetic field and therefor you wouldn't be able to use a compass. The volume of the moon is the same as the Earths ocean. And the moon is not made of cheese.

As you can see, even the little ones had a great time.

Our attempt at a group picture.
Thanks so much to Brittany for organizing this. It was a lot of fun to get out with a fun group and do a little exploring. I already can't wait until next week!

Conversation piece

Here is a little conversation Luke and I had the other night. As usual, Luke thinks that I come up with the weirdest questions...I like to say that they aren't weird, just creative...

Kim: If I were a letter in the alphabet, I think I would be a lower case h.

Luke: What!?

Kim: Yeah look at me. Dont you think I look like a lower case h?

Luke: Uh no! Where did you pull that out of?

Kim: Yeah look I'll draw it for you....See!

Luke: How do you look like an h and why are we talking about this?

Kim: I don't know. But look, my hips are wide and so my whole torso is wide and I have long skinny stick legs and not really much going on up top...like a lower case h.

Luke: Okay whatever you say.

Kim: Well if you were to be any letter in the alphabet, what letter would it be?

Luke: An upper case Q.

Kim: Duh! I think you look more like an upper case R.

Luke: Nope, I'm a Q.

Short Story

Early one morning as I was making breakfast, I heard a cute little laughing voice coming from down the hall way. I peaked in to find this handsome boy standing in his crib chatting up a storm. When I went to pick him up, I noticed that he was missing something... His diaper! Apparently the little prince felt like airing himself out and peeing all over in the process.

The End.

Welcoming the Un-welcomed

Dare I say Happy February??? For a while now, my hate towards February has been increasing. It's such a depressing month to me and I thought it would be fun to share with you the reasons why...

1. It's still cold. VERY cold. It seems like the warm sunny days are so far out of reach.

2. Why is it that Punxsutawney Phil always sees his shadow? All I want is a sliver of hope that winter isn't going to last for another 6 weeks. Lame.

3. Valentines day. Need I say more? Yes, I guess I do. Luke and I don't find it necessary to celebrate this one, although last year he did come home with some delish oatmeal from Jamba Juice for me, but that's where I draw the line. It's totally a manufactured holiday created to remind you that you're either A. Totally alone or B. That your insufficiently romantic. Duh.

4. The color pink...puke pink.

5. Sure this month only has 28-29 days, but it's the longest 28-29 days of the year.

6. Campaigning begins which means an increase of bumper stickers and lawn posters.

7. I will always be reminded of morning sickness.

Okay well I was only able to come up with 7 reasons why I don't like February. This year, I'm going to try a little more to have an enjoyable month. My plan is to fill it up with as many activities as I can and make it a tad better. Here's the plan....

1. I'm going to read the book The Help in honor of this month being black history month.

2. Going to celebrate February 5th-the day Luke and I found out that we were going to go from a family of 2 to a family of 3.

3. Buy something purple. February's flower is a viola [plant] and the birthstone is an amethyst so I think buying something purple to add to my wardrobe is only fitting...and I've been wanting to incorporate the color since I don't own a single thing that's purple.

4. Attend BANFF which is one of our favorite things to go to.

5. Make it to every book club, girls night out, enrichment night, and young women's activity I can think of.

6. Do something like investing in a pair of thermals so that I may enjoy the cold weather while it's still here...Who knows, maybe Deep down I may discover that freezing my bummy off in the cold wet snow is actually an enjoyable thing.

And 7. Find and express more ways to show the people around me that I love them everyday and not just on February 14th. Watch out...you may be heart attacked.
